Standards Guide

Stainless steel tube standards for procurement review

Use this guide to prepare standard references before requesting welded stainless tube, heat exchanger tube, sanitary tube, fluid conveyor pipe, or exhaust tube quotation.

Common Standard References

Stainless steel tube standards and RFQ context
ASTM A249 Commonly referenced for welded austenitic steel boiler, superheater, heat exchanger, and condenser tubes.
ASTM A270 Commonly referenced for sanitary stainless steel tubing where finish, cleaning, and hygienic use must be defined.
GB/T12770 Referenced for mechanically structured stainless steel welded tube programs and related product review.
GB/T12771 Referenced for stainless steel welded pipe for fluid transport and related clean-process or industrial pipe review.
Buyer specification Project drawings, AS/NZS references, engineering notes, inspection scope, and material certificate requirements should be attached when applicable.

How To Use Standards In An RFQ

A standard reference should be treated as the starting point, not the whole RFQ. Buyers should also define grade, dimensions, application, surface finish, pressure or eddy current testing, material certificate needs, packaging, destination market, and acceptance criteria. This is especially important for Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand buyer specification projects where documentation and traceability may matter as much as the product name.

Recommended Product Pages

Standards and specification FAQ

Are ASTM A249 and ASTM A270 the same?

No. ASTM A249 is commonly referenced for welded austenitic steel boiler, superheater, heat exchanger, and condenser tubes, while ASTM A270 is commonly referenced for sanitary stainless steel tubing. Buyers should confirm the exact edition and acceptance criteria.

Can JZ quote only from a standard name?

A standard name helps, but buyers should also provide grade, dimensions, application, testing scope, surface finish, documentation needs, and acceptance criteria before quotation.

How should Australia and New Zealand buyers handle standards?

Australia and New Zealand buyers should state whether the project follows AS/NZS references, ASTM references, or buyer specification documents, then attach the required acceptance and documentation notes.

How should Singapore buyers specify sanitary or clean-process tube?

Singapore buyers should confirm grade, ASTM A270 or buyer reference, roughness target if required, cleaning method, product-contact status, certificate needs, and packaging requirements.

Do standards replace drawings?

No. Standards do not replace part drawings, tube sheet details, bend layouts, end forms, tolerances, or project-specific inspection requirements.
